How much time should I rest between my exercises?

Rest intervals are defined by the duration of time between each act of physical effort. High-intensity burst activities quickly use up the more powerful energy storage within the tissues. Once these energy storage deplete, or their metabolic byproduct accumulation becomes inhibitive, the action is stopped physiologically. To repeat the action, the body must rest while rephosphorylation occurs and lactate is removed. Therefore. The rest periods used for subsequent movement actions are secondary to the energy system consideration.

Here’s some guidelines to help you find to best rest intervals for you:

-Hypertrophy training: 3-5 sets per exercise for 8-12 rep, 70-85% 1RM = 30-60 sec rest interval

-Heavy-Low-Rate Power: 3-4 sets per ex for 3-6 rep, 85-95% 1RM = 2-4 min rest interval

-Light-High-Rate Power: 2-3 sets per ex for 10-20 rep, 50-75% 1RM = 30-60 sec rest interval

-Endurance Training: 2-4 sets per ex for 12-25 rep, 50-70% 1RM = 20-30 sec rest interval

-Fitness training: 2-4 sets per ex for 8-15 rep, 65-85% 1RM = 30-90 sec rest interval
